Exercise and the Immune System

Keeping athletes healthy is a passion for David Nieman. A world-renown expert in nutrition and exercise science, Nieman has led numerous research projects—including those funded by Gatorade, the U.S. Olympic team, and the U.S. Department of Defense—that test what influence certain vitamins, carbohydrate sports drinking and exercise regimens have in preventing upper respiratory infections among extreme athletes.

His research also benefits the average person—especially his finding that the best preventive measure for the common cold is regular exercise.

Give Now to Appalachian

Philanthropic support enables Appalachian to maintain its high academic quality, compelling activities outside the classroom, life changing experiences on the athletic field, and participation in internships and service programs that develop our community leaders of tomorrow. There are so many reasons—and ways—to give to Appalachian.
