BOONE—Appalachian State University’s annual Latin American Film Festival will feature the Chilean film “The Quispe Girls” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, in room 415 (Rough Ridge) in Plemmons Student Union on the university campus. Admission to the film is free, and the public is welcome.
“The Quispe Girls” is a Chilean film based on the true story of three sister shepherds, who lived a solitary life until a new law challenged them to question their existence and the meaning of their lives. The film will be preceded by an introduction from Dr. Gregory Reck, professor in the Department of Anthropology.
The film festival will also present the Columbian film “The Embrace of the Serpent” on Oct. 25 and “The Liberator,” which portrays Simón Bolivar and the struggle for Latin American Independence, on Nov. 15. All shows begin at 7 p.m. in room 415 (Rough Ridge) in Plemmons Student Union on the campus of Appalachian State University, are free of charge and open to the public.
A short discussion led by a Latin American studies faculty member will follow each film.

The Latin American Film Festival is designed to attract students, faculty and community members interested in Latin American studies. It has been organized by faculty in the Latin American studies program at Appalachian.
The festival is made possible by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the Department of Cultural, Gender and Global Studies, the Department of History, the Department of Anthropology and Appalachian@s, a university organization comprised of Latino faculty and staff.
