BOONE, N.C.—Appalachian State University Chancellor Sheri N. Everts cut the ribbon Friday, Aug. 25, at the recently renovated Howard Street Hall.
In her opening remarks, the chancellor said, “Space to support our academic mission and the work of our students, faculty and staff are always at the top of my list. With Appalachian’s slow and steady growth, we must ensure we have the faculty, staff and resources to provide the transformational education experience our students and families have grown to expect.”
Approximately 5,000 square feet of the 12,878 square-foot building houses two new classrooms and 21 faculty offices. The classrooms will be open for use by all colleges on campus.
More than 50 guests attended the ceremony and toured the building. Classes were in session in both classrooms, which accommodate 68 and 76 students.
Formerly the home of First Presbyterian Church, the university took possession of the space more than six years ago. It had been called the College of Education Annex. The remaining square footage houses the Lucy Brock Child Development Laboratory Program (LBCDLP), air conditioning and heating units and an elevator. The top floors above the classroom and office space remain separated to prevent cross traffic. The elevator serves only the top two floors.
During the ceremony, Everts recognized the building contractors and architects, Vannoy Construction and LS3P, respectively.
