Veterans Day Ceremony
With remarks from Army Capt. Joseph Callaghan
Please join the Appalachian State University community for a Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial located on the west side of the B.B. Dougherty Administration Building. Remarks will be provided by Army Capt. Joseph Callaghan. A reception will follow in the administration building lobby. In case of adverse weather, the ceremony will be moved to the lobby.
In addition, you are invited to join the High Country Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America for additional Veterans Day recognition at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018 at the Boone Mall.
About Army Capt. Joseph Callaghan
Capt. Joe Callaghan, a Chicago, Illinois, native who grew up in Naples, Florida, is a training officer and instructor with Appalachian’s Department of Military Science and Leadership. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Central Florida.
He enlisted in the Army and was commissioned as a field artillery officer in 2009. In 2012, he was deployed to the Ghazni Province in Afghanistan.
Callaghan has received numerous awards and decorations and is a graduate of the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leadership Course, the Field Artillery Captains Career Course, and the University of Foreign Military and Cultural Studies Red Team Practitioners Course.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge and the Polish Land Forces Parachutist Badge.
Callaghan and his wife, Ashley R. Callaghan, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, have a son and a daughter.
