BOONE—The Appalachian State University and Boone communities are invited to a live streaming of a panel discussion on advancing civil rights for the LGBT community.
The program “Moving Forward Together: A Panel Discussion on Civil Rights and the LGBT Community” with guest speaker Suze Orman will be streamed Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. in room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons.
Gus Peña, director of the Office of Multicultural Student Development at Appalachian, will convene the event and facilitate a discussion at the conclusion of the event. Admission is free.

Cosponsored by The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida, the event will feature remarks by Abraham H. Foxman, national ADL director.
Panelists are Mitchell Gold, owner of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams International Home Furnishings Company, Rabbi Dan Levin of Temple Beth El of Boca Raton, Nadine Smith, executive director of Equality Florida, David Barkey, ADL and civil rights area counsel, Jamie Schaefer, activist and board member of Faith in America, and The Rev. Andrew J. Sherman, rector of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton.
