BOONE—Trumpeter Scott Wendholt will join Jazz Ensemble I for a Feb. 19 performance at Appalachian State University. The program begins at 8 p.m. in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts on campus. Admission is free.

Wendholt is a member of the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music as well as the Jamey Aebersold summer jazz camps. Described as an articulate, passionate and lyrical trumpeter, he is also in demand as a player/clinician at colleges and various learning institutions around the world.

Well known on the big band scene, his list of credits include: The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly Thad Jones/Mel Lewis), Manhattan Jazz Orchestra, The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, John Fedchock NY Big Band, Gotham Jazz Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band and the Bob Mintzer Big Band.

The program opens with the jazz ensemble directed by Todd Wright. They will perform John Fedchock’s “Flintstoned,” Frank Rosolino’s “Blue Daniel,” a Gordon Goodwin adaptation of “Bach 2 Part Invention” and Frank Foster’s “Blues in Hoss’ Flat.”

Wendholt will join the jazz ensemble for Thad Jones’ “Three and One,” Bob Mintzer’s “El Caborojeno” and his own compositions “Time Lines,” “What Goes Unsaid” and “Beyond Thursday.”
