BOONE—Registration is open for the annual Black Saturday 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 1. Proceeds benefit the Recreation Management Scholarship Endowment of the recreation management program in the Beaver College of Health Sciences at Appalachian State University.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. at Holmes Convocation Center and end in Durham Park. The route will take runners and walkers over two exciting climbs before leading them through the Appalachian campus.
Each participant will receive an event T-shirt, and all participants are eligible to win a door prize from a local business. Live music and refreshments will be awaiting everyone upon completion of their run/walk.
Registration for the Black Saturday Run/Walk is $20 for the general public and $15 for students, military and senior citizens. These fees will be charged through Sept. 28. After that, registration is $25 for everyone. For further details on registration, go to http://5k.appstate.edu, or for online registration, go to http://active.com.
The Black Saturday 5K Run/Walk is sponsored by Recreation Management Association, a student club providing extra recreational, social and professional development opportunities that supplement the recreation management program at Appalachian.
