Flutist Göran Marcusson to present a guest recital March 2 at Appalachian

BOONE, N.C.—Göran Marcusson, a renowned flutist from Sweden, will present a guest recital at 6 p.m. March 2 in the Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University. His pianist will be Dr. Rodney Reynerson, a professor of piano and the keyboard coordinator at Appalachian.

This is a Hayes School of Music event. Admission is free.

Marcusson plays with the GotesborgsMusiken Chamber Ensemble in Sweden in addition to presenting solo recitals and leading master classes throughout the United States, South America and Europe. He has introduced many new pieces into the repertoire for flute. His CDs have received rave reviews. They include “The Nordic Flute”; “The Swedish Romantic Flute,” with the strings of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra; and “American Sonatas.”

Marcusson’s March 2 program will include Niccolò Paganini’s “Caprice No. 24 in A Minor”; Marin Marais’ “Les Folies d’Espagne”; André Jolivet’s “Cinq Incatations”; and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Sonata, Op. 94.”

Also featured will be “Lawn Tennis” and “To the Roses,” movements from Wilhelm Peterson-Berger’s “Flowers from Frösoö.”
