Students from Appalachian State University and Université d’Angers worked together to build Maison Reciprocity, a net-zero energy house that competed in Solar Decathlon Europe 2014. The row house was built in Boone and shipped to France, where students had 10 days to reassemble the structure for the competition June 28 – July 14.

A collaboration between the Center for Study of the Cuban Economy at the University of Havana and Appalachian's Walker College of Business allows for the exchange of ideas between Appalachian students and faculty, and thought leaders in Cuba who are key to effecting change and building relationships between Cuba and the U.S.

Twelve students from the Department of Computer Information Systems (CIS), along with associate professor Dr. Charlie Chen, explored Valencia and Barcelona, Spain. The purpose of the trip was to develop future global business leaders interested in doing business in Spain.

The UNC system has taken numerous strides toward addressing a state mandate to reduce energy consumption 30 percent by 2015, but greater cultural change is needed, university officials said during presentations at the Appalachian Energy Summit held July 9-11, 2012 at Appalachian State University.
