As co-leader of a United Nations-sponsored research team, he and others have found evidence in Central Asia for catastrophic oceanographic events associated with climate change and a mass extinction that devastated tropical marine ecosystems 375 million years ago.

Programs vary in length and cost, but provide the same components of service, learning and exploration found in Alternative Service Experience programs during fall and spring breaks.

In fall 2013, new and returning broadcast students were among the first in Appalachian State University's new 18,000 square-foot George G. Beasley Media Complex, which houses broadcast studios, classrooms, labs and offices for faculty members. A generous gift from Appalachian alumnus George G. Beasley of Naples, Fla., along with state funds and other private donations, have made the media complex a reality.
