    App State student-athletes extend 3.0 GPA streak to 25 semesters

    App State student-athletes extended their 3.0 GPA streak to 25 consecutive semesters as of fall 2024. All 17 athletic programs finished the fall with both a semester GPA and cumulative GPA above 3.0. Combined, all student-athletes achieved the highest semester GPA since fall 2020 and the highest cumulative GPA since spring 2021.

    Retired NFL player Jason Kelce attended App State’s homecoming football game at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Nov. 23. Kelce, who was decked out in black and gold overalls to support the Mountaineers, tailgated and took photos with fans before the game, and at halftime, he spoke on the field to hype up the crowd.

    On Nov. 2, App State and UNC Asheville played a seven-inning baseball doubleheader in Kannapolis, with proceeds from the event benefiting the App State Disaster Relief Fund and the UNC Asheville Athletics Disaster Relief Fund. The schools raised more than $11,000, which will support their campus communities’ recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

    This spring, App State student-athletes achieved a significant milestone as they marked the 12th straight year — or 24 consecutive semesters — of earning a cumulative grade-point average above 3.0. The Mountaineers ended the spring semester with a 3.20 cumulative GPA for all student-athletes.

    Former App State quarterback Armanti Edwards ’09 was announced as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Edwards guided the App State football team to two national championships in 2006 and 2007, as well as the Mountaineers' famous upset victory over Michigan in 2007.

    In fiscal year 2021–22, App State generated an estimated $573 million in added income for the five-county regional economy and $2.2 billion to the North Carolina economy through operations, construction, visitor, and student spending; volunteerism; and the increased earnings and productivity of alumni.
