BOONE—The Looking Glass Gallery in Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union presents “Art of the Book,” a student and alumni juried exhibition through Nov. 11.
This exhibition consists of over 30 works, featuring more than 20 students, alumni and faculty artists. It was juried by Georgia Deal, a Washington, D.C.-based artist. Deal selected books that push the boundaries of preconceived notions of what a book can be. The exhibition includes works visitors might not recognize at first as a book, while other pieces take a contemplative path that unfolds beautifully through craft and details. Many of the books may be handled; others are for display only.
Ariel Moran, curator of the student-run gallery, said, “This show is something different for the Looking Glass. I don’t often get the chance to showcase so many artists at one time. It has been a hectic but rewarding process to coordinate this juried exhibition.”
