BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University will extend its 2024–25 academic year undergraduate enrollment deadline by two weeks, until May 15, to provide students with more time to make decisions amid delays affecting financial aid offers.

This extended deadline for students to pay their enrollment deposits applies to admitted early decision and regular admission first-year students, as well as transfer students.

“We’re making this change so we can build the best scholarship and financial aid packages possible for our students,” said Dr. Troy Johnson, vice chancellor of enrollment management at App State.

This year’s delay in the federal processes and data transfer of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) details to higher education institutions has resulted in students across the nation receiving financial aid offers later than expected. FAFSA information is essential to determining eligibility for scholarships, grants, loans and other forms of financial aid. The delays will not negatively impact students’ financial aid offers.

“Our admissions and financial aid teams stand ready, as always, to assist and answer questions about the financial aid process,” said Johnson. “We’re working hard to do the best we can for our students as we navigate these new changes together.”

App State encourages admitted students who are waiting for their financial aid package to take advantage of its online net price calculator. The calculator provides an estimated net price by subtracting a student’s estimated grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance, which includes tuition and required fees, books and supplies, housing, meals and other related expenses. The estimate does not represent a final determination.

Recent rankings continue to strengthen App State’s reputation for value. The university, which has campuses in Boone and Hickory, has been listed among Money.com’s 2023 “Best Colleges in America,” U.S. News’ 2024 “Best Value Universities in the South” and Washington Monthly’s 2023 “Best Bang for the Buck.”

The university has also been recognized among Southern higher education institutions where graduates take on lower amounts of student loan debt — ranking No. 4 among four-year public and private North Carolina higher education institutions for lowest average student debt.
