BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University has named three first-year students as the newest recipients of the Bill and Hughlene Frank Scholarship.

“As one of App State’s most significant scholarships, the Frank Scholars Program provides incredible resources and opportunities for its recipients.”

Established by The Stanley and Dorothy Frank Family Foundation in 2021, the Frank Scholarship offers substantial support — covering approximately 75% of the cost of tuition — to App State students who have graduated from a high school in Guilford County.

“As one of App State’s most significant scholarships, the Frank Scholars Program provides incredible resources and opportunities for its recipients,” said Will Sears, App State’s interim vice chancellor of university advancement. “We are deeply grateful to the Frank Family Foundation for supporting this unique experience for our students.”

This year’s recipients are:

  • Olivia Munhall, a first-year biology major from Jamestown.
  • Symone Rhodes, a first-year political science major from High Point.
  • Harrison Rose, a first-year student from Greensboro, major undecided.

The three new scholars join a cohort that includes nine returning scholars.

Renewable for up to four years for full-time students, the Frank Scholars Program also facilitates opportunities for students to pursue Greensboro-based internships and to network with peers and community leaders.

The Frank Scholarship is one of App State’s prestigious and highly competitive first-year scholarships.
