    App State professor Joseph Bathanti named to North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame

    Former North Carolina Poet Laureate and Appalachian State University professor Joseph Bathanti has been named to the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame — an honor reserved for five of the state’s most accomplished writers. Bathanti is the author of over 20 books spanning multiple genres including poetry, fiction, nonfiction and personal essays. He will be inducted into the hall during a special ceremony on Oct. 6.

    Steven Cuzmenco ’23 was awarded first place in the Graduate Capstone category by the Preventative Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) for his thesis “Registered Nurses’ Perception of Plant-Based Dietary Patterns: Self-Efficacy, Health Beliefs and Behaviors.” His abstract will be published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, and he is invited to present his findings at the PCNA’s annual cardiovascular symposium in April in Orlando.

    This feature in Marketplace explores a recent report by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which finds that the biggest credit card issuers in the U.S. charge higher interest rates and fees than smaller banks and credit unions. Neel Das, professor in App State’s Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management, explains how brand recognition is one of the main reasons why consumers choose certain credit cards, even if their interest rates are higher. Das advises consumers to consider the whole package, and not just a familiar name, when choosing a credit card.
