Graduates of App State’s Appalachian Police Academy — a component of the Appalachian Police Officer Development Program — enter the criminal justice job market with a college degree, North Carolina law enforcement certification and a minimum of two years of policing experience.

This fall, App State welcomed 20,436 students, with 18.6% of the total population being underrepresented students — the university’s most diverse student body to date. Student enrollment in App State Online programs increased for the third consecutive year.

Four App State students have been named the inaugural recipients of a new scholarship established in memory of Jerri Kent Heltzer and Harry Heltzer, longtime friends of the university. This renewable scholarship will cover approximately 75% of the students’ tuition.

Appalachian State University has marked its best fundraising year in more than a decade. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, the university raised more than $36 million, including $31 million in cash gifts — the largest cash fundraising year in university history.

A new collection of seven sculptures has been unveiled on App State’s campus as part of the university’s Arts Corridor. The artworks — installed in mid-August and created by artists from across North Carolina — will be displayed on campus for two years.

Four acclaimed authors — Savannah Sipple, Neema Avashia, Leigh Ann Henion and Scott Blackburn — will visit App State’s campus this fall as part of the 2022–23 Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series. The authors will read from their work and deliver talks on the craft of writing.
