    Child care program earns prestigious accreditation

    App State’s Child Development Center expansion is nearing completion, allowing the center to serve 54 additional students. The center is also celebrating achievement of accreditation through the Pathways to Accreditation program, offered by the Children’s Council of Watauga County.

    App State’s student-run solar vehicle team, Team Sunergy, secured a second-place finish in the multi-occupant vehicle category of the 2022 American Solar Challenge. The team completed 1,549 miles over the eight-day road race and took home the competition’s Electrical Design Award for the second consecutive year.

    A first-author publication by Dr. Sarah Evans, assistant professor in App State’s Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences, is highlighted by the editor of Eos magazine. The paper reports on findings from ground temperature measurements made at nearly two dozen locations across Baffin Island, Canada, which provide a basis for improved prediction of permafrost thaw across the Arctic.

    App State alumna Karolyn Martin ’22 was named Miss North Carolina 2022, becoming the second consecutive Mountaineer to receive the honor. Martin, an Honors College student, graduated from App State with a bachelor’s degree in communications studies.
