BOONE—Registration is open for The Knob, the third and final race of the 2016 High Country Triple Crown series, which will take place Oct. 8. Participants can walk or run, and proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of the High Country. Girls on the Run promotes the health and confidence of girls in grades 3 to 8, using a curriculum that emphasizes running. In 2015, the race series donated $10,000 to the program’s scholarship fund.
The Knob will begin at 8 a.m. in downtown Boone at the Lost Province Brewing Company. It will follow a challenging, picturesque two-mile route uphill to Knob Park. Also starting at 8 a.m., The Bonk, another race for runners and walkers, will begin at the top of Howard’s Knob and will finish back at the Lost Province Brewing Company.
Special awards will be offered to overall winners and to age-group winners of The Knob. After the race, cash awards totaling $1,500 will be given to the top three male and female overall winners of the Triple Crown series and to its top three male and female grandmaster (age 50-plus) competitors. Food will be provided by Lost Province Brewing Company and Stick Boy Bread Company.
