BOONE, N.C.—Appalachian State University encourages undergraduate research, and the university’s representation at the 12th Annual State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS) at N.C. Central University in Durham last November is testimony to that fact. According to information supplied by the Office of Student Research (OSR), Appalachian and N.C. State University hosted the largest number of undergraduate research presentations at the symposium – 60 each.
The OSR reported a total of 45 N.C. academic institutions attended the symposium, and students from across the state delivered more than 400 research/creative performance presentations. Appalachian students from a variety of disciplines including biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, English, environmental sciences, graphic design, interior design, physics and astronomy, philosophy and religion, psychology, theatre, and women and gender studies presented. The 13th annual SNCURCS will be hosted by Campbell University in November 2017.
Students at Appalachian will have the opportunity to present in April on campus during the 20th Annual Celebration of Student Research and Creative Endeavors. For information about the celebration and other opportunities around student research, contact the Office of Student Research.
