    Appalachian State University has received a second grant totaling $297,529 from the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, to continue an exchange project between public schools in Watauga County and Taxila, Pakistan.

    Appalachian State University is one of 19 U.S. universities to open an American Cultural Center at a Chinese university. The center at Northeastern University (NEU) in Shenyang, China, has been funded by a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State and is part of a program initiated by the state department in 2011.

    Installed as North Carolina’s Poet Laureate last September, Joseph Bathanti will be awarded Chowan University‘s 19th annual Mary Frances Hobson Prize for Distinguished Achievement in Arts and Letters on Monday, April 15.
