    The Freiman family has donated more than $2 million to App State in support of An Appalachian Summer Festival and University Libraries. The gifts were given in memory of Larry Freiman — who passed away in 2021 — by his wife, Barbara, and their children and grandchildren.

    The student team was recognized for its solar power system, designed to meet the renewable energy needs of a campus community

    A multidisciplinary team of App State students captured a second-place win in the 2021–22 Solar District Cup, recognized for their solar power system design. This national competition challenges students to develop renewable energy solutions for college campuses or urban districts.

    Sean Gaillard has been appointed principal of App State’s Academy at Middle Fork lab school in Walkertown. Gaillard currently serves as principal of Moore Magnet Elementary School in Winston-Salem. His new role begins July 1, 2022.

    The 2021–22 academic year marked the 10th consecutive year that App State student-athletes have earned a cumulative GPA above 3.0. A total of 185 student-athletes achieved either the Chancellor’s List or Dean’s List in spring 2022.

    App State alumni Payton Blaney ’22, Andrew Williard ’22, Henry Campbell ’21 and Ilya Wang ’20 have been awarded 2022–23 Fulbright grants. Beginning in fall 2022, they will travel abroad to fulfill English language teaching assistantships or engage in research.

    App State’s Dr. Vicky Klima has been recognized with the Southeastern Section 2022 Distinguished Teaching Award, conferred by the Mathematical Association of America. Klima is the first App State faculty member to receive this award.

    25 African leaders will visit App State for a 6-week Leadership Institute — the first held in person since summer 2019

    App State has been selected as an Institute Partner for the 2022 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. As part of the Fellowship, App State will host 25 emerging Civic Engagement leaders from Africa for a six-week, on-campus Leadership Institute this summer.
