    US Conec, a Hickory-based fiber optic cables and connection hardware manufacturer, has contributed $5,000 to support the 2015 Future Engineers’ Camp operated by the N.C. Center for Engineering Technologies. The center, also located in Hickory, operates week-long day camps each summer for area school students from 3rd to 10th grade.

    To help older adults learn how to prevent falls, Appalachian State University’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Institute for Health and Human Services will begin offering free monthly CHAMP screenings at two locations in Watauga County beginning in March.
