    Last fall, Appalachian State Athletics posted its 11th consecutive semester with a grade point average above 3.0 for Mountaineer student-athletes. The 2017 fall semester GPA was a 3.07 for all of athletics, contributing to a cumulative GPA of 3.10 for App State student-athletes.

    Appalachian State University has received a $5 million grant from The Leon Levine Foundation of Charlotte. In recognition of their generosity, Appalachian’s Board of Trustees in December approved naming the university’s newest facility — currently under construction — the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences. The building will house Appalachian’s Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS).

    Long time music educator and director of bands at Appalachian State University, Joe Phelps passed away Jan. 6, 2018 at the age 73. Phelps, of Vilas, was Professor of Trumpet and became Assistant Director of Bands at Appalachian in 1971 and enjoyed a full-time career of 30 years supplemented with part-time teaching through the fall of 2017.
