    At a ceremony in Holmes Convocation Center, Appalachian State University announced a commitment of $10 million to support the university’s A Mountaineer Impact initiative. Chancellor Sheri Everts and Director of Athletics Doug Gillin announced the commitment from Mark Ricks, a 1989 alumnus of the university. The commitment represents the university's largest outright gift to date.

    The new gigantic scoreboard at Kidd Brewer Stadium is currently being installed. When the project is completed later this summer, Appalachian State University will be host to the largest display in the Group of Five collegiate athletic conferences.

    Senior Emily Stinson, junior Savanna Wood, and freshman Melany Chong were all recognized by the WGCA landing on the 2016-2017 WGCA All-American Scholar Team. The trio led a remarkable year for App State women's golf in the classroom which included a team GPA of 3.41, the third-highest among App's 18 programs and a perfect single-year and four-year APR score of 1,000.

    Appalachian State University women's track and field student-athlete, Tristin Van Ord, has been nominated for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. The Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

    David Shumate, a 2006 graduate of Appalachian State, will replace retired Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Harris as the radio voice of Duke basketball and football. Duke announced Monday that Shumate has been named the director of broadcasting for the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network.
