App State sophomore wins top prize in 2019–20 Otto Zenke Student Design Competition

Sophomore Isaac Wood, an interior design major at Appalachian, has won the top prize — a $1,000 scholarship — in the 2019–20 Otto Zenke Student Design Competition for North and South Carolina students. Appalachian’s applied design program received a matching $1,000 prize.

US Army Women’s Foundation honors Edna Cummings — App State alumna and military trailblazer

Appalachian’s first African American female ROTC graduate, Edna W. Cummings ’78, is one of the newest inductees in the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation Hall of Fame. Cummings is a retired Army colonel with a distinguished 25-year military career.
App State’s Karen Fletcher leads national organization of research development professionals

Appalachian’s Karen Fletcher, director of grants resources and services at Appalachian, has been appointed president of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) Board of Directors. Fletcher assumed her new role in July 2019 and will serve as president through June 2020.
