    App State’s Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program has been nationally recognized with a 2024 Exemplary Enduring WAC Program Award from the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum and WAC Clearinghouse. The annual Exemplary WAC Program Awards recognize the extraordinary achievements of WAC directors and their teams in establishing, maintaining and sustaining programs that foster and facilitate exemplary engagement with writing across the curriculum at their institutions, as well as institutional commitments to support these achievements.

    Dr. Brooke Christian, App State associate professor of chemistry, has received a $306,783 Research in Undergraduate Institutions Award from the National Science Foundation to support her research on biomolecule stabilization, which has important applications in numerous areas — from pharmaceuticals to the food industry. These awards support faculty at predominantly undergraduate institutions in research that engages them in their professional field, builds capacity for research at their home institution and supports the integration of research and undergraduate education.

    The seventh class of App State’s Appalachian Police Academy comprises 20 graduates who are now sworn North Carolina police officers working with the App State Police Department while they complete their degrees at App State. To date, the academy has trained nearly 140 sworn police officers.

App State’s Team Sunergy placed second in ASC this summer, and has done historically well in the competition since first entering in 2016.
