Newly renovated Sanford Hall is ready to welcome App State students

The doors are open at App State’s newly renovated Sanford Hall — where almost every undergraduate Mountaineer takes at least one class during their college career. Classes in Sanford Hall will resume this fall upon completion of the final phase of the project.

App Builds a Home is raising funds and building walls

App State Fulbrighter Dr. Suzanna Bräuer explores microbes’ impact on climate change

App State’s Dr. Suzanna Bräuer, professor of biology, has been awarded a 2020–21 Fulbright to research how methane-producing microorganisms known as archaea impact global climate change. Her Fulbright assignment takes her to Finland, where she is also teaching graduate courses at the University of Eastern Finland.
App State Fulbright awardee Dr. Eric Karchmer researches adapting traditional Chinese medicine to treat emerging illnesses

App State’s Dr. Eric Karchmer — a 2020–21 Fulbright awardee — has embarked on a Fulbright expedition to Taiwan, where, for the next 10 months, he will research how Taiwanese families are using traditional Chinese healing practices to manage the health of their children. He is joined by his wife, App State’s Dr. Dana Powell, and their children.
App State Police develops new unit to specialize in diversity, inclusion and community engagement

2 App State seniors awarded Gilman Scholarships to study or intern abroad in 2021

App State seniors Chris Zaman, of Cary, and Myia Spivey of Rocky Mount, have each received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study or intern abroad — virtually or in person — in 2021. Spivey is planning to intern in Singapore this summer, and Zaman is slated to study abroad in Japan this fall.
App State names inaugural BCBS of NC Endowed Professor in Public Health

After conducting a national search, App State has appointed Dr. Martie Thompson as its inaugural Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Endowed Professor in Public Health. Thompson, who comes to App State from Clemson University, will join the faculty in App State’s Beaver College of Health Sciences in August.
