Appalachian researcher helps link oxygen increase to biodiversity growth

A team of researchers, including Appalachian's Dr. Cole Edwards, found that oxygen levels appear to increase at about the same time as a three-fold increase in biodiversity during the Ordovician Period, between 445 and 485 million years ago, according to a study published Nov. 20 in Nature Geoscience, a periodical that covers all aspects of the Earth sciences.
Watauga County mumps diagnosis, health officials continue to urge public vigilance

Appalachian District Health Department (AppHealthCare) and Appalachian State University are continuing to investigate one case of mumps in an Appalachian State University student, which was confirmed on November 21, 2017, and upon further investigation was determined to be out of the recommended isolation period as of November 22.

Appalachian alumnus Mark Ricks ’89 commits $10 million to support Mountaineer Athletics

At a ceremony in Holmes Convocation Center, Appalachian State University announced a commitment of $10 million to support the university’s A Mountaineer Impact initiative. Chancellor Sheri Everts and Director of Athletics Doug Gillin announced the commitment from Mark Ricks, a 1989 alumnus of the university. The commitment represents the university's largest outright gift to date.
