The 16th Annual Martin and Doris Rosen Summer Symposium on “Remembering the Holocaust” will put a particular emphasis on the Holocaust as an event in global history and explores the complex connections between the Jewish refugee crisis of the 1930s and early 1940s with the present refugee crises around the world.

Award-winning sculptor Gregory Elliot, who selected the sculptures for the 31st Rosen Sculpture Competition and Exhibition, will announce winners and offer insights into his choices when he leads the Rosen Sculpture Walk with the juror.

Solar-powered Appalachian’s Team Sunergy took second place at the 2017 Formula Sun Grand Prix after hundreds of hours of preparation and three days of intense strategy and track racing. The annual race, which took place this year on the Circuit of The Americas track in Austin, Texas, is an international collegiate endurance competition that sets the standards for and tests the limits of solar vehicle technology.

After majoring in career and technical education, Joseph Gannon ’16 secured a teaching position in Montana. He teaches middle school, as well as high school shop/woodworking, metalworking, construction and CAD/drafting. He is also an assistant wrestling coach.

As anticipation builds with the solar eclipse approaching this August, the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University will hold a panel discussion to examine the many interpretations of these events in history, from scientific to religious, and discuss the significance of an eclipse through the variety of disciplines that comprise the college.

Gina McCarthy, the former head of the EPA, and Majora Carter, an urban revitalization strategist who hosts “The Promised Land,” a Peabody Award-winning public radio series, will deliver keynote addresses during the Appalachian Energy Summit at Appalachian State University.
