Robert Gipe is a graduate of Wake Forest University, with a master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He lives in Harlan, Kentucky, and works as the director of the Appalachian Program at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College, where he is a key producer of Higher Ground, a series of community-based musical dramas inspired by oral histories and local issues.
Turchin Center Hosts Spring Exhibition Celebration

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University invites the community to explore its current exhibitions as part of the First Friday Downtown Boone Art Crawl. This free event is an opportunity for art lovers to spend time with fellow arts patrons, while viewing exhibitions in seven galleries of the Turchin Center. The opening will also feature refreshments and live music.
Dr. Curt Fields, living historian and re-enactor, brings Ulysses S. Grant to campus and area schools April 24-28

Grant: The Man Behind the Uniform.” Fields is the National Park Service representative for Grant. He has portrayed the commanding general of the Union Army in films, posters and re-enactments.
Conservationists from the Sustainable Amazon Foundation in Brazil to speak at Global Opportunities Conference
