BOONE—LUNAFEST, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be presented in two local screenings this month. All proceeds benefit Girls on the Run of the High Country, the Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge and the Breast Cancer Fund.
The first screening is April 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Greenbriar Theater of Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union, followed by a question-answer session beginning at 8 p.m.
The second screening will be held April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harvest House Performance Center in Boone. Intermission will feature complimentary movie snacks and an auction of the winning pieces from Bra-Va!, a community competition to creatively and festively decorate a bra.
Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at http://www.lunafest.org.
This film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
LUNAFEST was created and is funded by LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®. Since the film festival began in 2000, LUNAFEST has raised more than $757,000 for Breast Cancer Fund and more than 1.7 million for other women’s non-profit organizations.
The screenings are hosted by Mast General Store. For more information, visit http://gotr.appstate.edu/luna.
