    Dr. Marie Huff, has been named dean of the Beaver College of Health Sciences at Appalachian State University. She was most recently dean of the College of Health and Human Services at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

    More than 100 craftworkers looked upward, many with visible pride, as the final steel beam was lifted by crane to the top of Appalachian’s Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) facility June 8. The building is slated to open in August of 2018.

    Technology graduate student Hazel Chang’s design, “Sonata Music Classical Skybox,” was recognized as the winning entry at LIGHTFAIR® International, the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference. Two other Appalachian students were awarded honorable mentions at the competition as well.

    David Shumate, a 2006 graduate of Appalachian State, will replace retired Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Harris as the radio voice of Duke basketball and football. Duke announced Monday that Shumate has been named the director of broadcasting for the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network.

One recipient has worked to relieve hunger in his community.     Ticks can cause some major issues if you come close to them. According to the North Carolina Department of Human and Health Services, most of the tick-borne diseases from here are bacterial infection and can cause flu-like symptoms. Appalachian State University Biologist Dr. Steven Seagle is the resident expert on ticks and says there is some positive news when it comes to these creepy creatures.
