    The 2025 US News rankings recognized App State business, education and nursing programs

    App State ranks among the nation’s top schools for online education, with its App State Online bachelor’s and master’s programs recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s “2025 Best Online Programs” rankings. App State has experienced five consecutive years of online student enrollment growth.

    Dr. Francis T. Borkowski, App State’s chancellor from 1993 to 2003, died Jan. 19 at the age of 88. Under his leadership, the university strengthened academic and student success programs, expanded global education and helped establish the area as a cultural tourism destination.

    App State student-athletes extend 3.0 GPA streak to 25 semesters

    App State student-athletes extended their 3.0 GPA streak to 25 consecutive semesters as of fall 2024. All 17 athletic programs finished the fall with both a semester GPA and cumulative GPA above 3.0. Combined, all student-athletes achieved the highest semester GPA since fall 2020 and the highest cumulative GPA since spring 2021.

    App State celebrated its seventh annual Founders Day on Nov. 21 to commemorate its founders, B.B., D.D. and Lillie Shull Dougherty, and the first day of classes held at Watauga Academy in 1899. Nine new members were inducted into the university’s Bell Ringers Society as part of the day’s events.
