Appalachian State University has been recognized — for the fourth consecutive year — as a national leader for the number of Reich College of Education alumni who are National Board Certified Teachers. The university topped the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards’ 2019 list of “Top 50 Alma Maters by Total Number of NBCTs,” with 2,057 alumni having earned the national credential to date.

Entrepreneur Ronald ‘Steve’ Norwood ’80 wins 2019 Outstanding Service Award

Norwood, who is founder and CEO of Consolidated Asset Recovery Systems, serves on Appalachian’s Transportation Insight for Entrepreneurship Advisory Board. His 2016 donation initiated the Appalachian Student Venture Fund, enabling students to launch start-ups while promoting local and regional economic development.
App State recognizes Young Alumni Award winner Jonathan Kappler ’05

Kappler, who serves as chief of staff to the state’s deputy secretary for behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disabilities, is a past president of Appalachian’s Alumni Association and has served on numerous university advisory boards.
