Dr. Davis Hankins of Appalachian State University is one of 10 winners of the Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise this year. He received this award for his work “The Book of Job and the Immanent Genesis of Transcendence” (Northwestern University Press, 2015).
Alumni Daugherty and Rogers inducted into the Reich College of Education Rhododendron Society

Appalachian alumni James Daugherty ’93 ’94 and Julia Kay “Kay” Rogers ’69 ’76 were inducted into the Rhododendron Society on July 21 at a brunch held on campus. As the highest honor given by the Reich College of Education, the award honors alumni for their exemplary service to education and to their communities.

The Presidential Scholars serve a one-year appointment and provide a wide range of professional functions for GA. The position has regular interaction with senior leadership and members of the UNC Board of Governors and will also work to help research, write, and implement policy.

Dan “Vallie” Hill, practitioner-in-residence in the Department of Communication at Appalachian and WASU-FM manager, was awarded the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters (NCAB) 2017 Wade H. Hargrove Community Leadership Award in June. The award is given to North Carolina broadcasters who have demonstrated a commitment to public service in their communities.
Three App State Golfers Earn WGCA All-American Scholars Honors

Senior Emily Stinson, junior Savanna Wood, and freshman Melany Chong were all recognized by the WGCA landing on the 2016-2017 WGCA All-American Scholar Team. The trio led a remarkable year for App State women's golf in the classroom which included a team GPA of 3.41, the third-highest among App's 18 programs and a perfect single-year and four-year APR score of 1,000.
Appalachian State solar vehicle places second in international track race

Solar-powered Appalachian’s Team Sunergy took second place at the 2017 Formula Sun Grand Prix after hundreds of hours of preparation and three days of intense strategy and track racing. The annual race, which took place this year on the Circuit of The Americas track in Austin, Texas, is an international collegiate endurance competition that sets the standards for and tests the limits of solar vehicle technology.
Foreman named vice chancellor and chief of staff at Appalachian State University

Foreman will oversee the areas of University Communications, Arts Engagement (An Appalachian Summer Festival, the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts), the Holmes Convocation Center, the Office of Sustainability, the Small Business and Technology Development Center and External Affairs and Community Relations.

Appalachian State University women's track and field student-athlete, Tristin Van Ord, has been nominated for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. The Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
Appalachian awards 10 students Diversity Scholarships for 2017-18

The Diversity Scholarship is given to students who have demonstrated leadership potential, academic achievement, a willingness to create positive change and a commitment to the principles of diversity. The scholarship covers full in-state tuition and fees for eight semesters, plus special service, leadership and travel opportunities. All first-year students are eligible for the scholarship.
Cindy Barr named associate vice chancellor for enrollment management at Appalachian

Cynthia Lawrence “Cindy” Barr will be the next associate vice chancellor for enrollment management at Appalachian State University. She will begin work Aug. 1, having most recently served as vice president of enrollment at Catawba College.
