BOONE—The internationalization of higher education has become an imperative, according to the associate vice chancellor for international education at Appalachian State University. Speaking at a luncheon during International Education Week on campus, Jesse Lutabingwa said providing global learning opportunities has become part of the university’s fabric.

BOONE—Professor Al Harris from Appalachian State University’s Department of Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management has received the Walker College of Business’s Lifetime Achievement Award for devoting his career to providing students with international opportunities.

Members of the student media outlets The Appalachian and The Peel Literature & Arts Review at Appalachian State University received nine awards at the fall 2015 National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas, held Oct. 28 through Nov. 1.

The opera theatre is directed by John Fowler from the Hayes School of Music. The theme of the evening, “A Woman Scorned and Other Clichés,” features scenes from 10 well-known operas, from “Don Giovanni” to “Falstaff” and “La Boheme.”

The choir is directed by Dr. Priscilla Porterfield. Jonathan Asbell is the accompanist.

Ask any college student about their goals and the most likely response is finding a good job and supporting themselves after graduation. Students with intellectual disabilities are no different.

A performance by the University Singers and Chamber Singers from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University will take the audience on a global excursion through the choral works by international composers.

The ensembles performing are the Appalachian Tuba/Euphonium Collective, Appalachian Trumpet Choir, Appalachian Trombone Choir and Appalachian Horn Choir.

“English Without Effort” combines two classic Eugene Ionesco plays, “The Bald Soprano” and “Jack, or the Submission.” According to Director Derek Gagnier, Ionesco may have lived in the 20th century, but his writings relate to the Millennial generation.
