The winning sport coat designed by Appalachian alumni Bradley Rhyne ’07 and Filipe Ho ’07, college roommates and co-founders of Charlotte-based menswear line OLE MASON JAR, features “trim lines and an emphasis on tradition.”
Appalachian’s College of Arts and Sciences has named alumna Carmen Leigh Scoggins ’94 ’98, adjunct instructor of Spanish and foreign language methodology, the winner of its 2017–18 Outstanding Alumni Award.
Allie Link, a senior communication, public relations major and one of five members of the Link family, credits her father, Appalachian alumnus Jeff Link ’90, for instilling her family with a love of Appalachian.
The chapter praised Jordan, associate dean of student affairs and program services in Appalachian’s Reich College of Education, for his work as an advocate for Appalachian’s students, faculty and administrators.
Numerous Appalachian students, student organizations and advisors were recognized (by the university’s Division of Student Affairs) during the 2017–18 Student Organization Leadership Awards ceremony on the university’s campus.
First-year students Bailey Gardin, Hudson Miller, Cece Ramseur and Ashelyn Stevens are the recipients of Appalachian’s Dr. Willie C. Fleming Scholarship, which covers the students’ full in-state tuition and fees.
Sustainability efforts in place on Appalachian’s campus — from a zero waste commitment to biodegradable straws — have earned the university top rankings in AASHE’s 2018 Sustainable Campus Index and SIERRA magazine’s 2018 index of “Cool Schools.”
