    At the beginning of the semester, 32 international students arrived in the United States to start studying at Appalachian State University for the 2018 spring semester. These students come from several different countries, such as France, Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Chile, Germany, Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom, Madagascar, Thailand, Switzerland, Nigeria, Peru, India and Canada.

    Last fall, Appalachian State Athletics posted its 11th consecutive semester with a grade point average above 3.0 for Mountaineer student-athletes. The 2017 fall semester GPA was a 3.07 for all of athletics, contributing to a cumulative GPA of 3.10 for App State student-athletes.

It wasn’t until she became a studio art major at Appalachian — more than 20 years after she first pursued higher education in the arts — that she realized she could turn her dreams into art and achieve her lifelong dream of becoming a trained artist.

    Three Appalachian students — Laurel Roser, Rhiannon Reed-Kelly and Keylen Renteria — are the recipients of the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and will study abroad during the 2018 spring semester. Named for retired Congressman Gilman, the scholarship program aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go.
